Scrap Fabric Heart

Every winter I save fabric scraps. From projects, towels that are past their usefulness, clothing that has been worn to rags.

I cut them into small strips.

When spring comes, I throw my little collection out into the brambles.

By the time summer comes, the scraps are gone. I like to think of my old worn out shirt gracing the nest of a forest critter ... my daughter's old hoodie lining a bird's nest.

I hope the critters appreciate my HEARTFELT efforts. Somehow, I think they do.

Flaking Rusty Heart

I found this flaking heart in the heart of an old torn apart swamp cooler at the abandoned mega-church.

It makes an interesting study of greens and browns.
And hearts.

A Heart, and a drop of Pitch

I was trying to capture the amber beauty of a drop of pitch.
I found a heart as well.
Do you see it?
It's in the upper left corner of the picture.

It almost looks like this heart
Is crying.

Paper Plate Heart

After someone's picnic at the park ...

A plate, blown out of the garbage can,
Probably last summer.

It must have taken all winter,
And some very hungry critters ...

To make this heart.

Quilted Heart

I was actually trying to take a picture of the cat,
Sprawled out on the sofa taking a nap.

The picture didn't turn out, and I was getting ready to delete it ...
Until I saw the heart -
On the quilt, right behind the cat.

The Story Behind the Glass Shard Heart

I was stalking the abandoned and vandalized mega-church.
More windows had been broken since the day before.
I was determined to catch someone - and take their picture!

I had called the Sheriff about these vandals - children ... some as young as 8 years old ...
On the roof, breaking out the glass.
For weeks now.

As I carefully picked my way through the glass shards,
This one caught my eye.
What are the chances of a broken window shard ... being such a beautiful heart?

Suddenly - voices!
Loud angry voices!
I snuck around the corner ...

Snicker.

I guess my multiple calls to the Sheriff have been answered.

I feel much better now.

Heart and Sole

They came along ... the big machines ... clearing out years worth of accumulated stuff out of the ditches up and down our country road.

What they pulled up was amazing.

Including the remnants of an old shoe ...
Long past its usefulness ... except for the heart.

Heart Before Sunrise

I was on the phone with sissie ...
I looked out the window ...
And my train of thought totally derailed ...
Upon seeing the silhouette of a heart in the camelia tree ...
Framed by glowing contrails ...
Right before sunrise ...
Poor sissie, I hope I didn't hang up on her!

Gleaner Trash

The Gleaner delivery truck was unloaded, the baskets were filled ...
I was bringing my share to my car ...
When I came upon this beautiful heart
In the driveway.

War of Hearts

Part of an old Army chemical protective suit ...
Was NO protection at all --
In the War of Hearts!!!

It was found,
It was conquered,
It made me smile.
I hope it makes you smile as well.

Hearts - The Ultimate Weapons!

Displaced Moss Heart

Someone went along the path,
Bent on destruction.
They scraped away bits of moss,
Stomped them to the ground.

I found this piece of moss on the steps,
Roots in the air.

A perfect heart.

Then I picked it up,
And returned it to its home.

A Muddy Footprint and a Twig

For some reason this heart touched me deeply.
Maybe it's the simplicity ...
But when I saw it I knew it was

One of my favorites.

Squashed Acorn Heart

It fell from the tree last fall.
And survived the cold of winter ...

It shouldn't have stayed so close to the sidewalk!
To get stepped on, squashed.

But then ... it wouldn't have revealed it's heart!

Doodle Screen Hearts

I found a tiny heart of torn window screen ... but had trouble taking it's picture.
I chanced upon a small doodle pad that my daughter had been using.
Perfect!!!

Sidewalk Spot

Something was spilled here.
I think.
Or maybe it's another of those weird fungus thingies I see occasionally.

Whatever it is,
it captured MY heart!

Cloud Tree Heart

Yesterday started out beautiful.
Warm and sunny.

By late afternoon, however, the temperature dropped,
The winds picked up ...
And huge clouds started to build to the west.

This heart cloud appeared above the house
Sneaking between two fir trees, warming my soul.

Then it started to snow.
Just a little ... "chunky rain".

Now it's just cold.
But my soul is still warm.

Poppin' Up Daisies ...

The daisies have been popping up in grassy areas all over town.

Imagine my joy to see
this cute daisy heart!

Upside Down!

I heard the eagle chittering and calling behind the trees.
I've been trying to take his picture for weeks!

Just a glimpse through the trees and he was gone.
No eagle pictures today ...

But right there in front of me was this fantastic up-side-down heart!

The eagle can wait!

Just a Step to the Right ...

Just a step to the right ...
Or the left ...
and I would have missed it.

Do you see the heart???

Moss Heart with Aura

I found this piece of moss on a curb near a busy street.

I marvel at how these hearts reveal themselves ...
To everyone!

But only a few actually SEE them.

I hope you are one of the few!!!

Diggin' in the Dirt

The chickens got out the other day, free ranging through the yard and beyond. They had a ball! I hated to put them back in the pen, but it's for their own safety. We have owls, hawks, eagles, possums, skunks, raccoons, and the occasional cougar -- all of whom would love a nice chicken dinner.

During their day of foraging, the ladies scraped and clawed everything in sight. Including this patch of dirt.

I found the heart after the chickens had been rounded up and, with much complaining, deposited back into safety.

Decorative Tree Heart

I was driving to Canby for Gleaner's site cleanup when I noticed this tree near the Barlow Pioneer Cemetery. I pulled over and took a quick shot. It's not the best, but you can still see the way this tree has drooped down it's branches - to become a heart.

Aquatic Heart - Live!

Abandoned church ...
Courtyard ...
Fountain ... silent now ...

Heart!!!
